The heavy downpour during 16th to 18th July 2021 in Mumbai and surrounding areas has improved the water levels resulting in an overflow of Vihar and Tulsi lakes in Mumbai.

Now on 21st July 2021, Modak Sagar too started overflowing. It was possible due to heavy rainfall recorded of 346 mm and also Bhatsa increased it’s water level by more than 50% due to 336 mm rainfall recorded.

The total water level has improved upto 54% as of 22nd July 2021 as compared to 29% during the same period last year.

As per IMD, Santacruz had recorded 253 mm on 16th July and 235 mm on 18th July at 0830 am on respective days. Similarly as per Hydraulic Engineer Dept, the dam and lake areas recorded heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the last 3 days with Tulsi recorded highest with 355 mm on 16th July 2021.

Last year, the August 2020 rainfall came as a savior for Mumbaikars which helped increase in water levels enormously.

As per IMD more heavy spells are expected in July with August month in hand hopefully, Mumbaikars don’t have to depend on last spells to fill up the dams.
