Versova beach is an extension of the Juhu Beach towards the Andheri suburbs and it is located in an affluent suburb of Mumbai.. The beach is connected to the Versova village which is popular for its fish-market. The beach is beautiful view to see the fishermen at work and the horizon at the same time. It also draws a lot of crowd for ‘ganpati-visarjan’.
The entire area around Versova beach was originally surrounded by Koli settlements, who fished out from the sea. The village adjoining the beach is famous for its daily fish auctions.
The unclean beach was under scanner. Afroz Shah, a Mumbai-based young lawyer made the country proud by winning United Nations Environment Award for taking the cleanliness project of this beach. In August 2016, the beach clean-up project became so popular that even international celebrities got involved, United Nation’s (UN) ‘Patron of the Oceans’ Lewis Pugh also joined the drive.
Like other beaches the preferred time to visit when it is less humid which is from November to February when the weather is relatively pleasant.
How To Reach
Versova beach is located at a distance of 3.5 kilometres from Andheri railway station.
Auto: 20-minute auto ride from Andheri Railway station. It approximately costs Rs. 100 for a round trip
BEST Bus: Bus numbers 4, 251, 249 and 221 are available from the west side of the Andheri station for the beach.
Metro: It is convenient to arrive at Ghatkopar station and then take the metro towards Versova metro station. From Versova metro, the beach is at a walking distance.
