About Nehru Planetarium
Although the overall Nehru Centre complex was completed later, the planetarium itself became operational much earlier. The Nehru Planetarium was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 3 March 1977. Its primary objective was to foster scientific temper through astronomy education and public outreach.
On 3 March 2026, Nehru Planetarium completed 50 years of operation, marking its Golden Jubilee year.
The planetarium is designed to make astronomy accessible and engaging through full-dome projections and educational presentations. Over the years, it has become a center for astronomy outreach, public lectures, and scientific discussions in Mumbai. Visitors can also explore astronomy-related exhibits that form part of the overall experience.
