It is just the beginning of summer season and Mumbai already showing steep rise in maximum temperature reaching 39.4°C recorded at 1730 hrs IST on 12th March 2023. It is indication of hot days ahead. 41.3 deg C is one of the highest recorded on 17th March 2011 since 2010.
The highest temperature recorded is 41.7 °C on 28th March 1956. In last 10 years temperatures have exceeded 40°C. Most of these temperatures recorded are in the second half of the month, that is after 15th March but this time in 2023 it’s recorded much before.
The reason for high temperature is anticipated due to the prevailing of lower level Northeasterly to easterly warm dry winds and absence of sea breeze.
