Death of Chhota Kashmir – Save It

Death of OP Garden which is also known as Chhota Kashmir garden in Arey colony. Permission where Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a national movement which gives us international acclaim and a city which is struggling to breed. This kind of situation is heartbreaking.

This is a land which has 24 acres of open space and a love affair of Mumbaikars since ages and generations. Even today we have more than 300 citizens visiting the garden but has zero maintenance and civic infrastructure which makes it unsafe and unhygienic.

It is always a blame game where the leadership changes in array and the garden is treated like an orphan with no one to take care of. Majority of the staff has retired and the existing staff is waiting for the retirement.

Following are some of the conditions explains the apathy of administration:

• There is no proper water supply to maintain the garden since last 2 and 1/2 years and the pipeline is so old that we often find it damaged which needs a very small investment to repair.
• Due to no water, there is no one to dedicatedly take care of the public utility washrooms and they are so stinking that I’m sure even a crew would die passing by.
• Benches are broken or good. Benches are stolen.
• There is no electricity due to what there are no lights in the garden. It is a center of wrong and illegal activities in the night with liquor bottles. Found all around, including many objectionable material.
• The fencing is completely stolen by nearby encroaches.
• The iconic Pagoda wooden house inaugurated by our honorable prime minister Shri Jawaharlal Nehruji has fallen to pieces due to weather effect and no maintenance.

Swachh Bharat abhiyan is redefined where we have tons of single use plastic from wrappers purchased by the customers and are always burned as a solution to manage waste.

This is a social calamities where citizens and NGOs had been working to plant trees and add the green cover but they are all lost to nowhere.
