Hearty Congratulations to the Mumbaikars who took concrete step to eradicate pollution during Diwali. With the change in time the traditional celebration of this festival have created noise and air pollution. All these years the precautions for pollution were merely in discussions and on papers.
The sale of crackers is decreasing every year. Schools play a crucial role. Children take the oath in the school and also some housing societies determined not to create pollution by burning crackers. Some NGOs too took active participation. This was a self motivated effort which is going to be good example for celebrating eco friendly diwali.
One of the best example was set by the Housing Society in Bimbisar Nagar, Goregaon (East) rightly known as “Maitri”. This society expressed their strong desire to celebrate crackerless diwali. It was not easy task to convince everybody, but they shown that strong desire always overpower fear and doubts. Maitri Society displayed the series of Diyas during 4 days of Diwali. They organised Fort making event, making of Diwali Kandeel and various cultural programs. They generated the funds by collecting the 500 kg of “Raddi Papers” from house to house. The fund which left, was donated to the NGO at Gorai. Some of the photos of Maitri Society.
Similarly the society Lokhandwala Resident Association and Oshiwara-Lokhandwala Citizens celebrated noiseless Diwali. Societies in Thane too like Residents of Prestige Society, Eden Woods, Swastik Residency, Hill Garden celebrated Eco Friendly Diwali. Congratulation to these Memumbaikars for celebrating this auspicious event in traditional way and being responsible citizens.
