The Pink Railway Station of Mumbai

On the event of Women’s Day, Matunga station on the central railway has been painted Pink. This railway station is already in the Limca Books of Records for being the first Indian Railways station run by an all-woman staff.

In 2017 the station was run by all the 36 women staff. In this 16 were booking clerk, 4 RPF women constables, 6 ticket checker and 10 staff for other operational work.

The campaign of painting the station was mainly undertaken by the Leo Club of Khalsa college along with some other institutions.

Meena Shankar Santi manager of the station talking to Navbharat times said that all the women staff work dedicatedly and keep a homely environment on the railway station inspite of several challenges. During lockdown too they did their duty very responsibly. This Pink station is the symbol for all the women staff working here.
