MMRDA & Mumbai Metro Rail Project

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is a body of the Government of Maharashtra. It is responsible for town planning, development, transportation and housing in the region. The MMRDA was set up on 26 January 1975 under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Act, 1974 Government of Maharashtra as an apex body for planning and co-ordination of development activities in the Region.

The MMRDA comprises 17 members and is chaired by the Minister for Urban Development in Maharashtra supervised by Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

MMRDA covers the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). It is a metropolitan area consisting of Mumbai and its satellite towns in Maharashtra.

The satellite towns are Alibag, Pen, Murud, Panvel, Roha, Uran and Karjat talukas of Raigad district; Thane, Kalyan, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi, Murbad and Shahapur talukas of Thane & Palghar district; and Vasai, Palghar, Vada and Dahanu.

Mumbai Metro Rail Project: One of the main projects undertaken is Mumbai Metro Rail Project. Except Mumbai Metro Line 3 which is implemented by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL):
Metro Line 1 – Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor is 11.40 km elevated corridor.
Metro Line 2A – Dahisar to D N Nagar is 18.589 km. long elevated corridor with 17 stations.
Metro Line 2B – D N Nagar to Mandale is 23.643 km. long elevated corridor with 22 stations.
Metro Line 3 – Cuffe Parade – BKC – Seepz – Aarey Colony with length 33.50 km and 27 stations is under construction
Metro Line 4 – Metro Line 4 from Wadala to Kasarvadavali is 32.32 km. long elevated corridor with 32 stations.
Metro Line 5 – Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan area and to connect the unconnected Bhiwandi city to Kalyan & Thane city
Metro Line 7 – Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E) is 16.475 km. long elevated corridor with 13 stations.
Metro Line 8 – CSIA – NMIA (Airport Connector) is a proposed project having 35 km length with 7 stations.
Metro Line 9 – Andheri to CSIA and Dahisar to Mira Bhayander and is 13.581 km long.’
