A Boy With Various Disorders Got IIM Admission By Cracking CAT Exams

What can you say about a person having various disorders relating to movement, speech and learning? Whether he can live a normal life and that too able to do proper studies? A boy from Mumbai, Yash has not only overcome all these challenges but even went ahead to crack CAT exams to get admission in IIM, Lucknow.

Yash Avadesh Gandhi, 21 year old boy affected by Cerebral Palsy, Dyslexia, and Dysarthria have cracked CAT 2019 with 92.5%. Yash was an accounting and finance graduate from Mithibai college and he got admission to IIM Lucknow in the top 5 students.

To study at IIM was a dream come true for Yash. But he had several challenges for preparing for CAT specially in Maths subject in remembering formulas and understanding them.

Since July 2018, Yash started preparing for CAT exams when he was a second-year graduate student

“There were many moments of despair and agony, sometimes he also spoke of giving up, but somehow he always picked himself up and came back stronger,” says Avadesh Ramdas Gandhi, Yash’s father.

Yash got interview calls not just from Lucknow but also from Indore and Kozhikode. “I chose Lucknow because it is rated higher than the other two IIM’s,” says Yash speaking to BetterIndia.

Yash was studying at Seth GH School in Borivali. The school was very supportive of Yash in allowing him to do all the activities as a normal child and never made him feel ignored.

The tutor of Yash, Harshit Hindocha explains about the determination of Yash and how he gets going inspite of a lot of pain, depression being experienced during CAT preparation. But he never sought sympathy from anyone.

What is Cerebral Palsy?
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. CP is the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles. CP is caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain that affects a person’s ability to control his or her muscles.

What is Dysarthria?
Dysarthria occurs when the muscles you use for speech are weak or you have difficulty controlling them. Dysarthria often causes slurred or slow speech that can be difficult to understand.

What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects your ability to read, spell, write, and speak. Kids who have it are often smart and hardworking, but they have trouble connecting the letters they see to the sounds those letters make.
