Elphinstone Road railway station on western line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway will be named as Prabhadevi. Though all the formalities are over only now the names to be reflected on railway station.

The station contains only one platform for slow trains halt.

On 16 December 2016, the resolution was passed in Maharashtra Assembly for renaming the station. Finally on 6 May 2017 the proposal was approved by the Union Home Ministry.

History:
A 12th century idol of the goddess is installed inside an 18th-century temple located near the station. The name Prabhadevi was derived from the name of the Hindu goddess Prabhavati devi. Read here the history of the Prabhadevi temple.

The railway station Elphinstone road was named after the Governor of Bombay, John Elphinstone (1853 to 1860). He had valuable contribution towards development of Mumbai.
